TrueNAS with Enderchest
TrueNAS SCALE's cloud credentials take a custom S3 endpoint, so a Cloud Sync task can push any dataset to Enderchest on a schedule.
Endpoint https://s3.enderchest.store · region eu-ams-1 · path-style addressing · an access key from the console. 50 GB free on every account, then $3 per TB per month; downloads and API requests are free.
Add the credential
- In the Enderchest console, create a bucket and a read-write access key.
- In TrueNAS, open Credentials, then Backup Credentials, and click Add under Cloud Credentials.
- Provider: Amazon S3. Name it, for example
Enderchest. - Access Key ID and Secret Access Key: the pair from the console.
- Open Advanced Settings. Endpoint URL:
https://s3.enderchest.store. Region:eu-ams-1. Leave Use Signature Version 2 unticked. - Click Verify Credential, then Save.
Create the sync task
- Open Data Protection, then Cloud Sync Tasks, and click Add.
- Choose the credential, then the bucket and a folder inside it.
- Direction Push. Transfer mode Sync mirrors the dataset (deletions included); Copy only ever adds.
- Pick the dataset to send and a schedule. Tick Encryption if you want rclone's client-side encryption; keep the passphrase safe.
- Save, then use Dry Run once to see what would be transferred.
Notes
Under the hood TrueNAS uses rclone, so the rclone page applies to tuning. Storage is $3 per TB per month after the free 50 GB, counted by the day. Pulling the dataset back, or a single file through Restore, is free.
