Synology Hyper Backup with Enderchest
Hyper Backup's S3 Storage destination accepts a custom server, so a Synology NAS can back up to Enderchest without any extra software.
Endpoint https://s3.enderchest.store · region eu-ams-1 · path-style addressing · an access key from the console. 50 GB free on every account, then $3 per TB per month; downloads and API requests are free.
Create the task
- In the console, create a bucket (for example
nas) and a read-write access key. - Open Hyper Backup, click + and choose Data backup task.
- Choose S3 Storage as the destination.
- S3 server: Custom Server URL. Server address:
s3.enderchest.store. - Signature version: v4. Leaving this on v2 is the usual cause of an authentication error.
- Access key and secret key: the pair from the console. Then pick the bucket from the list, or type its name, and give the task a directory name such as the NAS hostname.
- Choose the shared folders and applications to back up, then the schedule.
- Under settings, enable transfer encryption and, if you want the data unreadable to anyone without the passphrase, client-side encryption. Keep the passphrase somewhere safe; without it the backup cannot be restored.
Notes
Hyper Backup keeps versions on its own schedule; Smart Recycle is the default and keeps hourly, daily and weekly points. Storage is billed on what the backup holds, $3 per TB per month after the free 50 GB, counted by the day. Restoring to the NAS, or browsing the backup from the Hyper Backup Explorer, costs nothing.
