Kopia with Enderchest

Kopia's S3 repository works against Enderchest as it does against Amazon: one create command with the endpoint and keys, then snapshots as usual. Kopia encrypts and deduplicates before upload.

Endpoint https://s3.enderchest.store · region eu-ams-1 · path-style addressing · an access key from the console. 50 GB free on every account, then $3 per TB per month; downloads and API requests are free.

Create the repository

Create a bucket in the console (for example backups) and an access key with read-write scope, then:

kopia repository create s3 \
  --bucket=backups \
  --endpoint=s3.enderchest.store \
  --region=eu-ams-1 \
  --access-key=YOUR_ACCESS_KEY_ID \
  --secret-access-key=YOUR_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY

The endpoint is the host name alone, without https://; Kopia uses TLS unless told otherwise. Add --prefix=laptop/ (with the trailing slash) to keep several repositories in one bucket.

Connect from another machine

kopia repository connect s3 \
  --bucket=backups \
  --endpoint=s3.enderchest.store \
  --region=eu-ams-1 \
  --access-key=YOUR_ACCESS_KEY_ID \
  --secret-access-key=YOUR_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY

Snapshots

kopia snapshot create /home/me/photos
kopia snapshot list
kopia policy set --global --keep-daily 30 --keep-monthly 12
kopia maintenance run --full

KopiaUI

In the desktop app choose Amazon S3 or compatible storage and fill in the same values: bucket, endpoint s3.enderchest.store, region eu-ams-1, access key and secret. Leave Use HTTP unticked.

Notes

Kopia's default upload uses parts of a few megabytes and several connections at once, which suits a home connection. Storage is billed on what the repository holds after deduplication, by the day, at $3 per TB; the first 50 GB is free and restores cost nothing.
